For me, the community is first of all the people who compose it, a mozaïque of different individuals with each his ou her personality and life story, but also, with a common anchor, their belonging to a community.

As part of the Journées de la Culture, it is specifically the Stanstead community, our community, that we wish to honor this year through the work of its artists and artisans whose sensitivity, creativity and works contribute, in part, to make our identity what it is.

Over the past few weeks, some lakefront property owners on Lake Memphremagog or the Tomifobia River have seen their docks, boathouses or access to the lake flooded.  In some cases, the retreating waters have left them with damaged structures to repair, and in others with shores to stabilize.  We remind you that all work on the shoreline and littoral requires a municipal permit.  This permit authorizes work for a specific period and subject to specific conditions.  Works benefiting from acquired rights can be repaired by obtaining a permit beforehand.  However, when repairs involve working underwater, authorization from the ministère de Faune is required, and is a condition in order to get the municipal permit.
 
You should also be aware that any work carried out without a permit can result in substantial fines and penalties at both the municipal and provincial levels.  These penalties apply not only to property owners, but also to any contractor or person who carries out such work without first obtaining a permit.
 
When it comes to cleaning up debris or algae littering shorelines, no municipal permit is required.  
 
Please do not hesitate to contact the municipal inspector by telephone or e-mail for any information or to obtain the documents required to submit an application.

​The Municipality of Ogden is inviting its citizens to a free and bilingual information session to answer questions about tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease. We expect the situation to evolve again this year. Indeed, ticks are on the rise in the Eastern Townships, and the diseases they transmit can have major consequences for the health of our citizens.

A permit is required for open burning.  Permits are available from Mondays to Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Do you observe nuisances on the lake (music, etc.) or on our roads (motor bikes or other vehicles) that irritate you?

File a complaint with the Sureté du Québec at 819 310-4141. This is the most effective way to intervene on these issues.

The Municipal Council is pleased to invite all residents of Ogden to a citizens' meeting to be held on Saturday, June 17 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

​The purpose of this meeting is to inform the citizens of the business that is occupying the elected officials and to this end, the Mayor and the Councillors will make a short presentation of the current and upcoming files to which they are assigned.

This presentation will be followed by a question period open to citizens allowing councillors to hear the concerns and ideas of Ogdenites and to exchange in a constructive manner on possible solutions to share or issues to prioritize. 

Proposed program:

• 8:30 am to 9 am - welcome
• 9 am - presentations by the mayor and councillors
• 9:30 am - question period from citizens
• 11:30 am - free discussion between participants
• Noon - end of the meeting

Sherbrooke, June 15, 2023. - Research work will take place on Lake Memphremagog from June 19 to July 7, 2023. During this period, staff from the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) will conduct an inventory of the yellow perch and white perch population. The aim of this work is to establish the status of these two species' populations by measuring various parameters. 

The MELCCFP is asking all users of Lake Memphremagog to cooperate in maintaining the integrity of the scientific equipment used to ensure the success of the study. The gillnets, identified by white buoys (similar to the image below), will be installed at various locations and depths in the lake according to a set protocol.

Users are asked not to walk between or near the buoys, to avoid entangling their own equipment in the ropes or moving the nets.

Signs will be posted at the main landing stages to inform customers of this project. Please note that as part of the work, the nets will be moved daily by the research team.
 
One of the aims of the study is to monitor changes in abundance and estimate the impact of white perch on certain species of interest in terms of competition for resources. Analysis of the results will be used to guide decisions on the management of these species, in order to maintain good fishing quality for the main species of interest present in the lake.

Roads 
We have continued with our five-year plan begun in 2021 by systematically investing in our road network. Despite a difficult winter with many freeze-thaw cycles and a very snowy March, our roads are steadily improving.

As there were no complaints received in 2022, the Ministry of the Environment will continue to ensure patrols under the same conditions as last year.

Community Activities
Large item disposal, art, Spanish, yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, aqua fitness and knitting classes were held, most of which at full capacity. There is a latent demand for these activities, and they will be continued again this year. We especially thank our council member Claudette Dupras for her organization skills which ensured such a resounding success, along with the leisure committee.

Land transfers decreased with the slowing of the real estate market in our area. We expect this trend to continue. The surge in inflation combined with the reduction in land transfer tax contributed to the overall increase of property tax for 2023 (7.9%).

The Mobile Ecocentre is dedicated to the recovery of materials. There will be a truck from Ressourcerie des Frontières to collect recyclable or resale items and materials. There will also be containers for the recovery of wood, metal and for waste that cannot be recovered.

At the site, you will have to deposit your materials in the containers. Volunteers will direct you to the appropriate location.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: For the program to be successful and repeatable, we need volunteers. Write to [email protected] or call 819-876-7117 ext. 4 to be added to our list of volunteers for this day. Thank you for your time!

A few instructions to respect when bringing in your residual materials:

• Bring proof of residence in Ogden (driver's license or tax bill);
• Sort the materials in advance in your vehicle or trailer. This will make it easier for the volunteers to do their job and allow for quicker unloading;
• Materials not accepted: garbage and recycling that are part of the weekly collection, contaminated soil, asbestos, medications and hazardous waste such as aerosol cans, vehicle batteries, cleaners of all types, containers and paints, varnishes, solvents, pressurized containers, fire extinguishers, fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, poisons, chemicals, swimming pool products, oil, grease and used filters, fluorescent tubes, containers and gas, propane and gasoline;
• Reasonable quantities are accepted. The Mobile Ecocentre is not intended for contractors or residents who wish to dispose of new construction or renovation waste. These must be disposed of privately.

NOTE THAT:

1. You can dispose of hazardous materials at any time at the Régie intermunicipale de gestion des déchets solides de la région de Coaticook.
2. Fluorescent lights (neon) and paint containers can be deposited at the RONA of Stanstead.
3. Motor oils and their empty containers, oil filters, antifreeze and aerosol cans are accepted at the LP (Harnois) garage in Stanstead.
4. Batteries for small appliances can be dropped off at Informatique ASR at 9, Passenger Street in Stanstead.
