Civil security plan

The Municipality of Ogden has produced an Emergency Preparedness Plan. Our Plan is the written result of our planning process which provides for the means to preserve the life and health of people, bring them relief, safeguard property or to mitigate the effects of a major disaster.

The essentials of our plan

L'Organisation municipale de la sécurité civile

PictureThe OMSC Team
L'Organisation municipale de la sécurité civile - OMSC or our Municipal Civil Security Organization makes up our response team in the event of a major disaster.

The OMSC team is made up of all municipal staff (members of the municipal council and municipal staff), but also citizens (volunteers) grouped together in various "missions". Everyone on this team has responsibilities and a role to play in the event of a disaster.

This team is organized as shown in the organizational chart.

If you have special equipment or skills which may be put to use in case of a disaster, if you wish to volunteer your services or if your property harbours hazardous materials, please contact us at agent@munogden.ca.

Alert means

The Civil Protection Plan includes various ways for staying in contact : before, during or after a major disaster. These “ways” could be used in complementarity depending on the situation and the urgency. Among these methods there are :
  • Automated “Municipal Alerts” system to receive automated alerts of all categories (evacuation, sheltering, closed roads, breakdowns, notices or others), by telephone, email, text message (depending on registration).
  • Radio media to transmit alert messages, as well as monitoring the situation.
    • Priority stations to be used are : 91.7 CBC (in English); 102.7 ROUGE FM and Radio-Canada Première - Estrie 101.1 (in French), Other medias (radio or TV) could also be used.
  • Municipal website www.munogden.ca
  • Newsletter by subscription and our bulletin “The Ogden Chronicle”.

Why not subscribe to the various means provided (Automated Alerts, Newsletter and Bulletin) and pre-tune the radio stations?
It is also important to notify the municipality of any change in contact information to ensure that we can reach you.

To subscribe to the means provided or to modify your contact information for Automated Alerts, Newsletter and for our Municipal Bulletin, please contact the municipality at 819 876-7117 or write to us at info@munogden.ca

Emergency premices

In order to be able to manage the events, emergency premises are in place where the main activities related to the missions of the OMSC could take place, such as:
  • Municipal coordination of relief activities: scheduled at the Municipal Office. Accessibility will be restricted for the population during certain events.
  • Services for disaster victims (registration of evacuees, general services, information pole, food services, temporary accommodation): provided primarily at the Municipal Office as well at the beginning of an event. This is also the place that is intended as a « Gathering point » for the population if you’d have to leave your residence or workplace during a disaster. Other places for shelter and temporary accommodations could be required such as the Stanstead College and other regional schools.

Agreements have been reached for the use of non-municipal premises or with certain organizations, such as the Canadian Red Cross to support our Disaster Services team.

And you? What can you do in this area? Would you be able to handle an emergency? We strongly encourage you to equip yourself with an emergency kit allowing you to meet your needs during the initial 72 hours of an emergency.
