Over the past few weeks, some lakefront property owners on Lake Memphremagog or the Tomifobia River have seen their docks, boathouses or access to the lake flooded. In some cases, the retreating waters have left them with damaged structures to repair, and in others with shores to stabilize. We remind you that all work on the shoreline and littoral requires a municipal permit. This permit authorizes work for a specific period and subject to specific conditions. Works benefiting from acquired rights can be repaired by obtaining a permit beforehand. However, when repairs involve working underwater, authorization from the ministère de Faune is required, and is a condition in order to get the municipal permit.
You should also be aware that any work carried out without a permit can result in substantial fines and penalties at both the municipal and provincial levels. These penalties apply not only to property owners, but also to any contractor or person who carries out such work without first obtaining a permit. When it comes to cleaning up debris or algae littering shorelines, no municipal permit is required. Please do not hesitate to contact the municipal inspector by telephone or e-mail for any information or to obtain the documents required to submit an application. Comments are closed.
