TO ALL RESIDENTs of Ogden
Saint-Bruno-De-Montarville, January 24, 2025 - The January 22 blackout, which affected
3,257 customers, was caused by equipment failures at Stanstead substation. Hydro-Québec was able to restore power to its customers thanks to maneuvers on its network but will have to carry out repairs on its facilities to prevent further breakdowns.
This work will require a planned power outage scheduled from Monday evening 9pm to Tuesday morning 5am and is expected to affect nearly 3,300 customers in the following municipalities: Ogden, Canton de Stanstead, Stanstead, Barnston-Ouest, Stanstead-Est, Magog, Ayer's Cliff and Georgeville.
In order to avoid interrupting electrical service during cold weather, and to work safely on the network, Hydro-Québec plans to carry out these repairs early next week, when temperatures will be milder. Customers affected by the planned interruption will be informed according to our usual process. Information will also be available on the Info-pannes page at the following address: https://infopannes.solutions.hydroquebec.com/info-pannes/pannes/avis-interruption-planifiee
Call for cooperation from customers supplied by Stanstead substation for the peak period of Friday, January 24 to Saturday, January 25
Until the repair work at Stanstead substation is completed, its capacity will remain slightly reduced. However, a period of very cold weather is expected again from Friday, January 24 to Saturday, January 25.
Should the capacity of Stanstead substation be exceeded during the peak period, Hydro-Québec may have to carry out cyclic load shedding on its network. This would entail power cuts of around 7 minutes for customers supplied by Stanstead substation. This exceptional measure is designed to avoid a longer outage.
To help us prevent this situation, customers supplied by Stanstead substation are asked to contribute to a collective effort to reduce or shift their consumption during the cold snap from Friday, January 24 to Saturday, January 25. Here are some simple gestures to put into practice between 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. to make a difference during winter peaks:
1. Reduce heating by 1°C or 2°C, especially in unoccupied rooms;
2. Limit the use of hot water whenever possible;
3. Postpone the use of major appliances such as the dryer and dishwasher;
4. Move the time of charging of an electric vehicle, if possible overnight.
We thank all our customers for their cooperation.
