Notice to citizens: Ogden withdraws from the intermunicipal agreement concerning the use of the Magog ecocentre as of January 1, 2025
The Municipality of Ogden became a party to an intermunicipal agreement concerning the use of the Magog Ecocentre with the City of Magog in 2020, and under the terms of this agreement, the Municipality of Ogden paid a basic contribution per Ogden residence registered for the service, and this approach has been continued until now, in 2024. Ogden citizens wishing to use the Magog Ecocentre have registered each year and paid the registration fee for this use, but the participation rate has continually been very low, ranging from only twenty (20) to thirty (30) citizens per year.
Now, the City of Magog has decided to review the intermunicipal agreement on the sharing of its ecocentre to ensure equity between the various users in 2025, but this change would have a significant impact on several municipalities with low ecocentre usage by their citizens, such as Ogden. The City of Magog therefore proposed to the municipalities a cost-sharing arrangement based on usage and population, starting January 1st, 2025, which would amount to approximately $6,193 plus a 15% administration fee payable by the Municipality of Ogden in 2025, an increase of over 300%.
As Ogden citizens will continue to have access to the drop-off point located at the Régie intermunicipale de gestion des déchets solides de la région de Coaticook (located at 1095 chemin Bilodeau, Coaticook), as well as to the two (2) mobile ecocentres organized annually by the Municipality of Ogden, the municipal council has confirmed its intention to terminate the Municipality of Ogden’s participation in the intermunicipal agreement concerning the use of the Magog ecocentre with the City of Magog as of January 1st, 2025.
